Rose | 18" diameter, 57" circumference | Paper mache, chicken wire, and spray paint | I began construction of the 'Rose' in February of 2012 and finally completed it in April. This has to be one of my favorites because I got to experiment with different mediums rather than just paint or pencil. I modeled wire fending to make the base and curls of the flower; there were bigger pieces for the bottom and smaller for the top. Each piece was covered with a few layers of paper mache and were constructed based on size, shape, and the unique place that each petal would fit in. I experimented with which petals would fit where. And finally a base coat of spray paint was used with additional highlights and natural shines from acrylic paint. The flower signifies the complexity of the little things; and especially the importance of nature.
