Midaq Alley | 11" x 14" | Acrylic | I made this piece for an English project on the book we read, 'Midaq Alley'. Through the creation of this piece, I portrayed the themes and moods of the book by using mostly dark and brown colors in addition to significance of shadows.
This painting reflects his emotional feeling of the character being "stuck" in Midaq Alley.
This painting is zoomed in at the back end of the alley as sunlight hits the building on the left and casts a shadow on the building on the right. The light and shadows show the multiple perspectives that people have of Midaq Alley: they either love it, or hate it.
The shades of brown and green tone show that the character sees the alley as dirt. Also the lack of specific detail in the painting represents the chaotic conflicts that clutter up the alley. The walls of the building are messy with dreary moods and colors.
